transfer process help

OK guys, I know I have been posting a lot, but it is just because I feel these boards are one of the best resources available to me. The people here are so knowledgable and helpful. If you don't know my story, you can find it in any of my other threads. As of now, my top two choices for next year are Boston U and Northeastern. I am somewhat confused about how all the paperwork is supposed to be filled out. First of all, I have asked my business professor about writing a letter of rec, and he said he would gladly do it. I have been on the BU and NEU sites reading about their transfer apps and NEU wants TWO letters of rec. They also want them on official letterhead in sealed envelopes. I don't think that any of my other professors really have enough to go on to write a letter for me as they are mostly large lectures. I could possibly get one from my music teacher at Lehigh, but that has nothing to do with academics. BU does not seem as concerned about the recs as NEU. For my business professor, I want to make it easy for him since NEU seems to have so many rules about their recs. Should I try to track down some paper with official Lehigh letterhead on it and give it to him with envelopes? Also, should i tell him why I am leaving and where I plane to go?NEU and BU also want college course descriptions. Where would I get these? I am just very confused right now about getting from point A to point B. If anyone can simplify this process for me, that would be great. I know a personal college advisor/counselor in the area who could help me with this, but it is $100 an hour. At this point I think it might be worth it considering how confused I am. Thanks.

hi gibson, glad you're moving along...

"Should I track down some paper with official Lehigh letterhead on it and give it to him with envelopes?"

-No. You can mention it if you feel you must but he knows to use official Lehigh letterhead, which will in all likelihood be his own personalized Lehigh letterhead.

"Should I tell him why I am leaving and where I plan to go?"

-I'd think yes. Talk to him so he knows something about you. It'll give him something to write about if he doesn't know you that well. Careful of course not to say too much negative about LU since he works there...just that it isn't right for you.

I would think the Lehigh course catalog, which is probably on-line, would have a description of each course you're taking. If you have trouble with this you could consult someone in the departmental office for the specific course. There may even be an administrative person who assists those transferring out, or who can at least help you sort through some of these details.

Professors should have letterheads; no need to track some down.

The course catalog entry should be fine; you could also send a a copy of the syllabus. If you marked it, perhaps you can secure another unmarked copy from the secretary of the department or the prof himself.
Ordinarily, transfer applications are handled some time in the spring. This allows students to have grades for their first semester courses and for profs to have something to say about the transfer applicants. If you are afraid your prof will not be able to say much about you, go and talk to him; try to make a positive impression on him by not trashing Lehigh and its academics but emphasizing other reasons for wanting to transfer such as wanting to be in a city such as Boston, wanting a different major than the ones available at Lehigh, etc...

Onr great thing about Nor'eastern is their co op programs. If you are willing to participate there are additional scholarships. Of course, it's important to apply early.
