I got a 3.3 my first semester with 17 credits in Syracuse university. But I was a the budget coordinator for a PAC (Political Action Commitee), worked 30 hrs/week, was a mentor for kids in elementary school, and am in the honors program.
I am thinking about transferring to the following schools:
UNC-chapell hill
U michigan
NYU
UCLA
UVA
cornell
Brown

OK so my question is should I apply to these schools now or wait and apply as a junior transfer. I was thinking of bringing up my GPA in a decent 3.6 range and applying next semester but a couple of people advised me against it. They said that most schools don't accept many spring transfer. So I should either apply now or next year as junior status. So what would u guys do if u were in my place?

I am assuming you are considering transferring into CAS since you are into politics. I know Stern at NYU only accepts transfers in the fall so you need to look into that situation. You need to get that gpa up. You can probably get into UVA though.

UCLA only accepts fall unless you want to major in nursing. Also, they only accept junior transfers. And to be honest a 3.3 isn't going to cut it at LA because they don't like OOS applicant... So you should really apply as a junior if you want a good shot.

You should apply now and see if you can get into the colleges you want to get into, if you dont get into any of the colleges you should apply again as a junior:)

Hey guys, I want to transfer because I was totally undecided when i came in but now I've chosen to double in Business and Economics. And I feel like Syracuse's niche is broadcast journalism and such majors. So I want to transfer to a school that has a very good business program and offers me more opprotunities in this field.
I know I can pull that GPA up to atleast a 3.5 after this sem. But I don't know if I should apply now with a 3.3 or wait and take a chance at spring or next fall.
any other opinions??

Brown states that it's easier to transfer in during the spring than in the fall, so waiting another semester might be a good idea (for Brown). It will also help you be absolutely sure you want to transfer.
