Alright, so I am attending a community college, and I am hoping to transfer to a good school and hopefully attend medical school. I need to take college Algebra, but math is my weakest subject. I tested out of intermediate math, but took it anyways and got a B. I could probably pull a B in college algebra with a lot of work. I thought I might do better if I audited the college algebra class first. Would it look bad if I audited the class first? Would that hurt my chances of getting into a good school? I'm not talking Harvard or anything. I'm thinking University of Delaware, Syracuse or Rice( total reach). I have a 3.54 GPA right now with 41 credits. I am trying to raise it to 3.7 or so. So I guess my question is simply does auditing a class look bad when you are trying to transfer to a different school? Thanks for the input.
Prue

I do not think so, if you are applying for transfer to a humble school. Could you just buy the book and go to the tutoring lab at your community college on the hush hush? Or do you have to show proof you are taking the class in order to use the tutoring lab?
Also could you take College Algebra online somewhere else, just to get an idea?

You have to show proof that you are in the class to use the math lab. I have taken classes online and I am fine with that but I need a real person to teach me math. Also wouldn't the class show up on my transcript if I took it somewhere else? I mean wouldn't I have to transfer the credits?

Well, is your college algebra class pass/fail? Or do you just get a grade of "AU", you know, for audit? I have a weird frame of reference for tutoring labs because I went to Miami Dade College when they were still a Community College and folks would just sort of drop by the tutoring lab to learn extra stuff.

Also, could you pay for a tutor twice a week and work through the College Algebra book? There are neat self study books like the Schaum's outlines.

Pass/Fail and Audit are two different things at my school. You recieve no credit for auditing a class, they simply put an x by the class. Our math lab is very strict. No class/ no enter. I will look into Schaum's outlines though. If I audited the class in the fall, I would take the class in the spring. My only concern would be that it would look bad when I try to transfer. Thanks for the idea's. Does anyone else have thoughts on this?
