Hey everyone, I just have few questions. To start, I'm a senior currently and have decided to go to CC for a year or so. Freshman and sophmore year I really blew off school which brought down my GPA. Last year I got 2.9 and am currently getting a 3.5, but my overall GPA is still very low (around 2.5-2.6). After CC I am thinking about transfering to University of Illinois or University of Wisconsin. I'm just wondering if I kept up a 3.5 at CC would I be able to get into these schools and would my low HS GPA hinder my chances of getting in?

First you should go to their website and they should have a transfer section that explains the requirements under their Prospective Students page.

In high school I was worse off then you. I was a slacker all four years and my GPA showed it. I started off at CC , and I have a 3.8 and was accepted to Va Tech for next fall, and the only reason they wanted to see my HS transcript was to make sure I had met their foreign language requirement. There are other schools though that still care about how you did in school. James Madison did for me, but they stressed the more college credits completed the less theyll care about what happened in high school, and I was accepted there as well.

If you have a significant grade trend, then it can play a vital role on your decision for admissions to the universities you are hoping to get into. Usually some schools will not look at your high school gpa due to the fact that you have surpassed a certain amount of units.

Many state school systems don’t require your high school transcripts if you have a certain amount of credits. I know U Illinois, UT, and the SUNY system follow this. You will definitely have a chance if you do well in college.
