Transfer Question(s)

Hi, I am a student currently at a top 30 university who is currently on a leave of absence. To make a long story short and to not delve too much into my personal life, a family member of mine developed a serious illness last February, which came completely out of nowhere. Needless to say, it hit me. Hard. I continued on and went to college, but had my troubles to deal with. On top of family issues, I had struggles with my own mental health that virtually crippled me for days on end. I spoke with my advisor, family, and friends and ultimately decided a leave of absence for the second semester was the proper course of action for me to spend time with my family during this time and to better my own health. Now, however, I’ve realized the school I was attending wasn’t necessarily a fit, and I would like to have a different experience. Unfortunately, I scraped by first semester and only ended with a 2.92 GPA with 16 credits, and had to withdraw from my 4 classes second semester in order to go on the leave of absence. I pretty much had a 4.0 high school gpa along with a 32 ACT. I just don’t know what colleges I can even look at with my current GPA, and I guess my question would be should I not even bother looking at top 50ish schools with my current stats? Would colleges mainly factor in my high school grades since I have so few credits? Any answers would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

What is your intended major ? What about finances ?

You do not have enough credits to be considered as a transfer student.

Many colleges & universities would love to have your stats of 4.0GPA & 32 ACT in their matriculated students category.

You will need to address your personal issues in any new application.

Im currently undecided. I have no idea what I would like to do yet. Finances are no issue. So, since I don’t have enough credits, would I apply as a freshman? I thought since I took classes at a college I would always be considered a transfer student despite not having a lot of credits.

That could vary by school. Which top 30 university & why wasn’t it a fit ? This info. is necessary if you want decent recommendations.

Notre Dame. I attended catholic school since a young age and feel like I was persuaded by teachers/alumni to apply as my school had a tradition of sending at least 7-8 kids per year to Notre Dame. I hate the location, the school is beautiful, but I want somewhere closer to my home of New York. I’ve made some buddies but no one I would consider a true friend, and my current circumstances call me to be closer than a plane ride from home.

Easy to understand why you need a change. Contact schools which are of interest to you & ask their admissions office for advice on how to proceed with an application to their school. Start with Boston College, Georgetown & Villanova.

As a full pay student, you might find that you get a warm reception.

Will definitely do that ASAP. Thanks a ton, really appreciate it.
