I have a question regarding transfering to uiuc. I have looked on uiuc's website and it says that most of the colleges require 60 credit hours by the time you enroll. Is it possible to transfer after only completing a year of community college(30+ hours)

yeah, its possible. it depends on your grades and such as well as whether or not the program is open. http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/prospective/ugrad/openclosed_transfer.html will tell you if its open or not. right now, the site is only updated for those who want to apply for spring.

when it comes time to apply, though, dont lose hope if the program you want is closed. dont be afraid to call the college. you just might be able to write a petition for them to consider you despite the program being closed. (youd have to petition anyway bc you have less than 60 hours if the college req. 60)

i have a couple of more questions. If I am going to transfer after a year of college what gpa would you recommend me getting? I would like to get into business. Does uiuc also look at your highschool transcript? And also what do you think my chances would be getting accpeted for the fall term?

it says 3.0 but i would recommend getting at LEAST a 3.5 from a cc. basically just get a 4.0 to have the best change, especially if your HS grades were weak. and yes, they will look at your transcript from high school and it, as well as your act and essays, will be an important factor in their decision given the number of college hours you have. i cant tell you what your chances will be. uiuc doesnt accept a lot of soph transfers, and it really depends on if the college will even be admitting anyone. i know, transferring under these circumstances is a difficult process. i went through it last year. i applied as a soph with 32 hours into ALS. i went to Indiana Univ my freshman year and worked really hard there bc my HS grades were average (i didnt get into uiuc after HS.) but here i am now on campus in champaign, so its all good. good luck.

how are cc courses? are they much more difficult than HS classes?

i dont know, youre the one in cc. or are you a hs senior right now? from people i know in cc say its easier than hs. depends on the cc though, obviously. nevertheless, you should get a very high gpa to have the best chance of transferring.

My HS grades are kinda weak. My fresh and soph grades are REALLY bad. Lets just say my gpa is below 2.0. But I really got my act together junior year and I got mostly b's, a couple of a's and a C here and there.. no d's or f's. Right now im in my senior year and i know there is no chance in hell im going to get admitted. So when im in cc will my chances drop a lot when uiuc sees how bad i did my first 2 years of highschool or will they look more at your junior and senior grades?
