Transfer question

Does UNC superscore the SAT for transfer admissions? If so, would a 2050 super scored SAT be competitive? Thanks so much!

Yes, UNC does superscore the SAT for all applicants. If I remember correctly, they do not use the writing score in the evaluation, but they do use it to determine your placement in certain classes if you are accepted. Did you apply for Fall 2013, or are you concerned with submitting these scores for the year after next? If you’ve already applied, there’s really no point in worrying if the scores you have already submitted are competitive, because there is nothing you can do to change what the admissions staff is currently evaluating. If you are hoping to apply for Fall 2014, and have not yet submitted your scores, I would suggest that if you think you are capable of improving your scores to do so.

Thanks for the response. I’ll be applying next year (in the Spring of 2012) as a freshman after my first semester at an average (70thish on US news) state school. That’s good to know they only look at CR+M, in which case I’d have a 1370 (680M,690R).

They do look at your writing score, and they use it to superscore. However, it is not as important as the reading and math.

Also, are you IS or OOS? 2050 is fine for in state, but 2100+ is really where you should be looking to be competitive for OOS.

I thought residency wasn’t considered for transfer admissions?

I’m OOS though.

I’m sorry, I totally missed the word transfer in the post! Yes, that’s correct that the writing score isn’t used. 1370 I think would be competitive…the average SAT scores for transfers both junior and sophomore year are below 1300 so if you have a good GPA and extracurriculars, I think you have a good shot.

Oh wow, okay, thanks so much for the help.
