I plan on applying this weekend. I carefully reviewed Cal Poly’s selection criteria per major. I will be missing a class under the BOLD required section because my CC doesn’t offer it. Will this affect my chances??

This is exactly what happened to me. I wasn’t able to get into a chemistry class that was listed bold under required classes. I was so scared my application would get rescinded. I was told everything is based on a point system. There are a lot of other factors that go into it. ( gpa, other courses completed, etc) . Are you sure your CC doesn’t offer the class? If you CC is located in California, go to the assist.org website. Your school may offer it, but it may just be under a different name, but still meets the requirements. I would also set up an appointment with your counselor. They will be able to tell you the best plan of action. You could also take the required course at another local CC as a last resort.

Just take as many of the required classes as you can, keep your gpa up, and try finishing as many support courses as you can. Again, which major you are applying for makes a big difference. If it makes you feel better, I applied for the animal science major, where I wasn’t able to complete one of the bolder courses, and I was accepted. let me know if you have any other questions. Good Luck!

I plan on applying on Econ or Poli Sci man. And thank you so much!!

You definitely need required “bold” courses or they will not accept you. Try to take it online from another college or something.

David, I thought the same thing and was told by everyone else I would NOT get accepted without that chemistry course, which was bolded. It depends on several different facts, like how many people are applying for that specific major for that year, what your gpa is, sat scores, how many other classes you completed, etc. Yes, it is best if you complete all of the required courses, but if you can’t for some reason, as in my case, you may still have a chance of getting in.

That’s true. You can miss a bold class, but you have to make up points in other areas to still get in. I forgot about that.
