I don't know if I should decided on University of Alabama or Southern Polytechnic State University. I want to be an Aerospace Engineer and I want to transfer to Georgia Tech my sophomore year . Is it a good idea to go to University of Alabama which has an Aerospace Engineering major and transfer to Georgia Tech or to go to Southern Polytechnic which does not have an Aerospace Engineering major, but does have General Engineering courses and transfer to Georgia Tech? Which is best? And, how do I know which courses to take so that there is no transfer issues? I went to oscar.gatech.com but I'm a bit confused and it wasn't very specific about which classes to take. I live in Georgia now and if I go to University of Alabama for a year and transfer to Georgia Tech, will I have to pay the Out-of-state tuition or am I still eligible for in-state tuition? If this thread is in the wrong section, please do let me know which section to post this in?

What is your plan if your transfer application is rejected?

What is the cost difference for you between U of Alabama and Southern Poly?

How set are you on a career as an aerospace engineer?

Those are questions you need to have answers for.

If you are dead-set on aerospace, and U of Alabama is no more expensive than Southern Poly, you should start out at U of Alabama. That way if you aren’t admitted as a transfer, you will still be able to complete the degree that you want.

If there is a big cost differential for you, start at Southern Poly, ace all of your classes, and cross your fingers for a successful transfer.

As for the whole in-state/out-of-state thing, if you are currently a GA resident based on where your parents live, and they don’t move out of GA, you will still be a GA resident next year.
