Transfer Question

Hi everyone, I’m sort of at a loss for my transfer situation right now. I am a CC student that would love to attend CPSLO for Fall 2014 as a business administration major. I went to a CSU my first year, and took engineering courses, believing it was right for me (which it wasn’t). Although my GPA at the school was a cumulative 3.71, my counselor stated which classes would most likely/most likely not transfer, and that brings my GPA down to a 3.5. However, when looking at the application, it just asks for a transfer GPA, which is a very gray area for me since neither I nor my counselor have the final say in what transfers and what doesn’t. I have met with my counselor twice already, but funny thing was both times concerning this matter, he told me different classes would and would not transfer (Ex. Said my intro to engineering class wouldn’t transfer the first meeting, but then said it would next meeting), so I do not know if I should go off of what he says. What do you guys suggest?

Also, I finished my calculus classes, but as far as major pre reqs go, that is it. However, I am on track to finish my major pre reqs and IGETC+Golden Four by next spring. Am I at a large disadvantage for having only completed one of my major pre reqs at the time of applications? Thanks for reading!

I transferred to Cal Poly this Fall as a Business major, so I’ll give you my perspective. I used my cumulative GPA in my application that included every class I took, including ones I knew wouldn’t transfer. There was never any issue brought up by Cal Poly about this. As long as all your prereqs are completed by the end of Spring 2014, you will not have any disadvantage when it comes to selection. I still had to finish Business Law, Managerial Accounting, Micro/Macro Econ, and Calculus when my application was turned in.

I’m an accepted transfer as a business major. I used my cumulative GPA at the time of application, and I had no issues. Cal Poly also calculates the GPA themselves.

Like you, I only had 1 major prereq completed, so I had to finish 9 out of 10, in addition to some GE, in 2 semesters. Even though those two semesters looked pretty rigorous when I listed them in my application, I was still accepted with a GPA of 3.47 at the time. I think as long as you indicate that you’re going to complete all of your prereqs by Spring, you will be fine.
