Does anyone have any idea how competitive it is to transfer into Wesleyan. My daughter had the SAT scores, but not the GPA, to get in from high school. (She had a slow start in h.s. and had weak freshman and sophomore grades, bringing down her overall GPA. ) But it's been uphill since then, and she's currently at a big urban school doing well, but would love to transfer to Wes.

i'll probably be trying to get in as a transfer as well, so wondering the same thing.... in fact, i'd be transferring in as a junior, which might be even harder?

Getting into Wes as a transfer is unfortunately much harder than it is to get in as a regular or early decision applicant. I would definitely encourage both of you to apply, however. Your grades at your current university, your essays, and your interviews will definitely work in your favor if all are fantastic. Oh yeah, and extracurriculars are extremely important as well!

I transferred in as a junior this past year and the admission rate was around 22-23%. The stats of the people that got in are competitive...lots of kids from reputable schools with high GPAs (3.8+) and good test scores. If you've got specific questions I'd be glad to help.

I don't know if that's true, showtunesguy - I think that getting in as a transfer is quite comparable to getting in as a freshman. Wesleyan has a fairly large transfer program for its size. It's competitive for sure, but it's definitely doable, unlike at some schools (say, Brown) that have almost no room for transfers.

Bringing this up again, does anyone know, or know where I could find, specific transfer statistics for wesleyan? How many transfer students actually apply, how many get in, and their average application statistics (test scores, gpa). I'm guessing that it fluctuates quite a bit depending on how many students are at wes/graduating/studying abroad/etc., so does anyone have any predictions for next fall?

liz, I know I saw a pdf on Wesleyan's transfer admissions page that gave some specific info on how many and what kind of transfer students they admit. If I find it again I'll post a link, but I think you'd be able to find it with a little effort. It was part of a larger document of all their admissions info.

I am hoping to transfer to Wes from a CCC, and I understood that this school was more transfer friendly than the other LAC's.

546-123 are the collegeboard #s. Wes is much easier (or far less difficult)than comparable schools. Many have 5-10% acceptance, but at least for now Wes's is over 20%. Even though Wes brings up the rear of the Little Three (Wms, Amherst, and Wesleyan) the undergrad education is equal to any Ivy and better than 3 or 4 of them. Small classes and personal att'n from profs are both nice as long as you have the stomach for Wes's political atmosphere.

Agree with that ^

Wes is a more transfer friendly school than most of the top LACs. A couple years ago they took 40% of transfer applicants though, so it looks like it's getting more competitive.
