I'm currently a senior and I'm most likely going to UCI or ucsb. My question is when I go to one of those schools if I decide to transfer, will the potential college I might transfer to look at my senior year gpa of high school(especially my 2nd semester) for their transfer admissions? How do i know for sure?

Potential schools are UCLA, UCB and USC at the moment.

If you were going to transfer as a sophomore standing (you send in your application freshman year with hopes of going there sophomore year) then your high school GPA is a factor. But it you were transferring as a junior standing, it’s normally not that big of a deal. This applies to USC.

Since you’re also looking at UCLA and UCB, you can only apply as a junior standing so HS GPA isn’t that great of a factor in the admissions process.

Of course they’ll look, even if you transfer as a junior. Trasferring from a mid tier UC to a top one is tough. If you want Cal or LA you would be better off attending a CC for 2 years.

SheerReflection,
Djcha97 and hmom5 are both correct, however Djcha97 has more of the idea of the weight of importance. Whether you are a sophomore or a junior, they will ask for your high school transcript. However, you have to check with each school, as some schools don’t require one for junior transfer. If they do, it is weighted with less emphasis than a sophomore transfer because you have completed more college.
I would advise you to go to a school that makes you happy - for all you know you might love it at UCI or USCB! It might turn out great!
But, more to the point, your goal schools are very tough to get into, as hmom5 said. Applying to a school for a second time and getting in requires a lot of work on your part on strengthening up everything you’ve got. If you are really committed to this, plan ahead and work hard. But, don’t be open to loving whatever school you attend the fall - it might turn out to be your dream school after all!
Good luck and let us know how everything turns out!

womanofmanyhats-
you seem to be a woman of many answers, so I must ask: when a school requires x number of credits or x years out of high school for a transfer to be pardoned SATS/hs transcripts/etc do you know if this means x credits/years by the time we would enroll in the fall or by the application deadline?

Thanks a lot guys. I feel like the typical college bound senior right now…so gun-ho about prestige and name. yes I know I find it stupid thinking that my chances of going to a excellent grad school or getting a excellent job is diminished if i go to uci instead of ucla or usc or ucb.

No_Moss,
Haha I don’t have MANY answers, but I try to offer advice when I have some experience on the topic.
When a school lists that when you have x number of credits, they will not look at things like your SATs/HS Transcripts - it is usually x number of credits that you have when you send in the application. However, this is different from school to school.
The wording is usually something along the lines of, for sophomores applying to be a junior transcript, a HS Transcript is not required.
Because it does vary based on wording, if you need more information, feel free to PM me specific details about the school in question and I can give you more specific advice.
Good luck!
