University of California - Admissions

on this link it shows deadlines for completing transfer reqs. Does this mean that i would have to have completed all 60 units and the 7-course pattern before i apply for transfer admission?

Also, i have math and english to finish before im finished with my IGETC and im hearing that you have to have the math and english portion finished before you even apply. Does this mean that i have to wait until i finish those classes before i can apply or can i still apply and specify that i will have them finished by the time my planned transfer date rolls around? thanks in advance.

gettingontrack:This means that you must finish 60 units and the 7-course pattern yes, but UC’s only require that you finish these requirements by the Spring before admission…not the spring before applying
“transfer applicants must satisfy certain aspects of the requirements by the end of the spring term preceding fall enrollment at some UC campuses” <– from your link

Additionally, you must have your English and Math requirements fulfilled in the same time frame…
“Required English and math must be completed by the spring term. Admission priority is given to applicants who complete the 60-unit minimum by the spring term.” (same link)

although I would advise that you finish those asap because you would be eligible for TAG and they DO look at students favorably who have those particularly requirement done.

thanks that helps a lot. by any chance do you know if the same applies to winter/spring quarter transfers?

the english and math requirement doesn’t have to be completed before you apply it has to be completed by the spring term before you transfer. so if you’re applying next year, you would have to complete your math and english by next spring.

While berkeleygirl0913 is right, it’s important to note that the universities that are big on prereqs/IGETC completion, like UCLA, would really prefer you having your English/math done before the spring semester. That way they would have grades for those core courses. In other words, you’ll have a better chance of getting in with english/math done.

You can go through your final spring semester to get those 60 units. You’ll probably apply with around 30, then update your app in January with around 46, and then finish the spring with 60 or so.

^ no. TAG will not go through if you dont have your math and english done before spring, its a requirement. you can apply…but it wont be a guarantee

^ this is NOT TRUE!!! I have an approved TAG from Davis now. I am also a qualified TAG transfer to other UC’s and I am finishing up my math requirement right now, the spring before my fall transfer. I had to write on my TAG my prospective classes for the Spring term i , so that the UC’s i sent my tag too knew that I was going to take my math course my last semester before transfer. Please do not answer a question if you do not know what you are taking about! While some of the higher ranking UC’s might have a strong recommendation that you complete these two before applying, those schools (UCLA, CAL) dont have a TAG!

@ ajdavidson: I didn’t mention anything about TAG.

@ paniikd: Nobody said Cal or UCLA have TAG’s.

This has gone completely off-topic.

paniikid,

maybe Davis allows this, as i have never looking into davis’s tag program other than a glance. however, ucsd, ucsc, ucb, ucla, ucsb all require that you have math and english done prior to spring, otherwise you CANNOT participate in a TAG.

ps i do know what i am talking about, considering i have a tag to three uc’s

sorry for asking again but anyone know what the specific rules are for winter/spring quarter transfers? and anyone know which of the ucs are going to have winter/spring transfers?

I read on last year’s decision forum that some people were admitted for spring to UCB in order to complete prereqs through fall; these people applied for fall however.

If you’re asking which schools are going to take spring 2011 applications, UCB has never done this. I’m not sure about the other schools. I think the lower tier schools are more likely to, though, because they have higher dropout rates.
