To MissAmericanPie or others similarly situated-- do you have an idea of when decisions are made on transfer applications (for Steinhardt)? And I gather that two of the dorms - 23rd Street and I forget the other- are resreved in part for transfers?? Other than the distance from WSP, how out of it does it seem if that's where you are? Do you think men applicants might have better odds of admission for Steinhardt (MCC) in light of the current mix? Any other advice, insights? Thanks-- your posts are always very helpful.

i did spring transfer, so my results came out in December along with ED students. the NYU website says early May.

from admissions.nyu.edu:

[The deadline for transfer applications was April 1st and the reading process for transfer applicants begins in earnest during the month of April. Notification dates vary somewhat depending on the school or program, but at this time, we expect that transfer admission decisions will be mailed beginning in early- to mid-May. Some decisions may go out a little earlier; and many will go out later, especially if the Committee on Admissions determines that spring grades need to be included in our review.]

yes, Lafayette Street and 26th street are reserved for transfer. i LOVE Lafayette. i love being near Chinatown (cheap fried dumplings and bubble tea!) and campus buses leave campus every 20 minutes to take students directly back to Lafayette. during rush hour, buses leave the dorm every fifteen minutes to take students directly to campus. my apartment is HUGE. my room has hardwood floors and a walk-in closet. i’m living in Union Square next year, but i’ll miss Lafayette. (Union Square rocks when you can legally drink. i just turn 21 and i’ve got to be honest, the central location to bars and subways influenced my decision :-P)

gender doesn’t have a huge impact on admissions, but your interests might have an impact, if you’re not focused on PR/advertising/marketing. i’m interested in grad school and new media/video games and my adviser said that the department is looking to broaden horizons.

just try not to go nuts while waiting. PLEASE PLEASE registered for classes for the fall at your current college, just in case something goes nuts. worst case scenario, and all that. that’s what i did at my CUNY, i registered for all of my fall classes just in case something fell through.

uhm. . . i can’t think of anything else. good luck! please don’t go nuts waiting! when i applied for spring 08, it was the best Christmas present i ever got.

not trying to be annoying here, but i heard that certain dorms were reserved for transfers and actually asked about it at my info session/tour. they said that no dorms are actually specifically reserved for transfers, but a lot of them end up together because that’s the housing that doesn’t go during room draw…

i met the vice president of student affairs at a transfer student dinner and he said that they try to group transfers together in those dorms. so there’s no “transfer dorm” but they try to leave enough rooms for all of the transfers they offer admission to.

Thanks both for the response. May doesn’t seem so bad–was thinking it could be July 4 before decisions are out.

Will transfer students who are waiting for a reply from admissions be able to register for NYU summer classes if they want? Will there be enough time between when you are notified and Summer 1 session registration/start date?
