Transfer questions

I’m sure my questions have been addressed many times over, so if you are aware of other threads addressing them, please feel free to send me on my merry way to said threads.

Anyway, I am wondering if anyone could offer any advice on the transfer process to Brown that I wouldn’t be able to find after doing a quick Google search. I am currently a freshman (freshwoman? first-year?) at Wellesley. I went into the college process thinking that I would love a small liberal arts college, but I am already finding the curriculum very constricting and I had the unfortunate realization that Wellesley does not offer the type of program/concentration that I am most interested in. I love so much about it, and I LOVE my professors, but when considering the next four years, I’m not sure if my current school will facilitate the type of scholastic and intellectual growth that I am hoping for. Also, I think I’d be more comfortable at a larger school, and one with boys, but these are not my primary reasons for considering Brown specifically. I never even considered Brown the first time around, but I recently stumbled upon a particularly strong program that Brown offers and it struck me as the type of environment I would thrive in. But I’m fairly anxious about this and whether or not I should even be thinking about a school like Brown…which is why I’m on here begging for my readers to be patient with my rambling!

Is the transfer process to Brown mostly another way to bring in athletes and other particularly desirable students, or does a student with an honest and fully realized academic reason to transfer (and a college record and test scores indicative of ability) stand a chance?

Another totally random question: is an isolated 1 on the Calc AP going to be highly scrutinized on a transfer application? I’m paranoid about and highly regretful of this blemish on my record…
