Transfer Questions

is there a way of transferring to cal poly before I complete 2 years of community college? I got in to cal poly last fall but decided to go to Northeastern University which ended up being way too expensive for me. I’m coming back to cali to get some GE out of the way and work and save up and want to get back to a 4 year university as soon as possible

Most transfer students have Junior standing (3rd year) Welcome back to Cali!

Yeah, I think they want you to have junior standing and all your lower GE’s at least out of the way. If you did not earn many credits at Northeastern, you could reapply as Cal Poly as a freshman, but then you would be basically wasting all the time (credits) and money you spent at Northeastern cause you wouldn’t be able to transfer any credits.

I have about 16 credits from northeastern, but I’m not sure how many of them would be transferable since one of the classes was a humanities elective and another one was a 1st year business class.

Hmmm…well 16 semester credits would translate to about 10 quarter credits. Or if Northeastern is on quarters, then 16 quarter credits is only equal to about 1 quarter of college. If you wanted to transfer your credits from Northeastern, they would also transfer, it just depends on what type of credit you would receive for the classes. If the classes you took don’t fulfill the general education or major requirements at Cal Poly, then they would probably transfer as elective credit. In other words, you’d get credit for completing the course, but it wouldn’t necessarily count towards a graduation requirement.

Ok thanks!
