Transfer questions

Okay, so, long story short...I applied to 5 schools to which I thought I wanted to transfer. I was rejected by 3, accepted by MoHo, and haven't heard from Bryn Mawr. Assuming I get rejected from Bryn Mawr as well, I've got some questions for any current students/parents of current MoHo students. I've visited twice and have never gotten "the feeling" on MoHo's campus that I belong there, and I'm feeling very uncertain about the prospect of moving to a very isolated area. Any help you can offer would be very much appreciated.

What is it like there overall? Are people nice/welcoming?

How bad is South Hadley (I know Northampton and Amherst are only a bus ride away, but I'm not sure how I feel about having to take a bus any time I want to be somewhere with more to do)?

How is the living situation?

I haven't found that many courses in the catalog that interest me. Based on the requirements, it looks like I'll still need another humanities course, 2 gym classes, two courses in science and math, and a multicultural perspective course. Are the distribution requirements difficult to fulfill? Are the courses interesting?

Uh, this may be a bit much to ask/perhaps the reviewer was just throwing it out there, but on Uni Go.com, I read a review of MoHo that says sexual assaults are rampant on campus (u n i g o .com/mountholyokecollege/reviews/10564). Is that true?

People are people everywhere. But my rising soph D has found some nice people at MHC. Students are not cutthroat academically and want to do their best, not better than the girl in the next seat.

S.Hadley is not much more than a large strip mall. But it DOES have most of the basics. Amherst has tons of restaurants and a few stores. Northampton has many stores. There are many of the big stores nearby, accessible by free bus or car. You may not have too much time to go off campus anyway. Many thing are happening on campus and in the other colleges every weekend. Most MHC students are really busy with on campus things.

Rooms can be really nice. Mostly quite big, and I have seen many on campus and many at other colleges. Firsties and sophs will get doubles. Food is good and plentiful and offered in many places.

If there are few courses in the catalog that interest you, why are you going to MHC? But MHC generally has similar courses to other LACs. My D fulfilled almost all of her academic distribution requirements during her first year, without pain.

Sex assaults? What??? UNIGO is a nice source of anonymous slanders.

Glad to hear your D is enjoying MoHo. Is the roommate setup difficult? Are students given a choice/survey about what “type” of roommate they’d prefer (i.e. loud vs. quiet, late sleeper vs. early riser, etc.)?

Are transfers allowed to participate in the 12-College Exchange Program?

If one is a student-athlete, is it still necessary to take PE courses outside of that?

My daughter is a '10 Mount Holyoke grad.
There is an extensive survey form to fill out for roomates. Granted, their reliability reflects how accurately the students fill them out.
I would suggest that you contact the registrar’s office regarding the other two questions…there is a link on the website:
[Mount Holyoke College :: Contact a Member of the MHC Community](http://www.mtholyoke.edu/cgi/contact3?email=LJZThq03kvBafy5hHCXdWn_a5&who=the+Office+of+the+Registrar)

Maybe I’m being daft, but can somebody explain the requirements to me!? The website says:
“At least 68 credits must be earned from course work outside the major department, across the three curricular divisions: humanities, science and mathematics, and social sciences. Mount Holyoke proudly requires not just this distribution across divisions of knowledge, but also a foreign language (intermediate knowledge of a language you have studied before, or elementary knowledge of a language new to you), and a multicultural course.”

How many science/math courses are required? How many semesters of a language? How many semesters of a multicultural perspective course?

[AB Requirements :: Registrar :: Mount Holyoke College](http://www.mtholyoke.edu/registrar/ab.html)

Does that clear things up a bit?

Thank you! So am I correct in saying that, in accordance with the “Outside the Major” section, one can’t only “major” in something, one must also minor in another subject?

I believe it is either a double major or a major and a minor.
