Transfer questions

I'm not transferring this year, but it still make me so excited and happy for all of you who are currently getting your acceptance letters.

I had a few questions about transferring to UCs, specifically UCLA. Do I need to finish IGETC by the fall before I transfer, or is it okay to have some in progress in the spring? The same goes for prerequisites. Would a UC, like UCLA, accept a student who has a high GPA, but has one prereq missing, at the time of applying? I am not TAP certified, by the way.

Congratulations!

That is so funny I just posted the SAME question! I hope someone can tell us!

I got into Berkeley with IGETC still in progress during spring and missing 3 pre-reqs. It’s better to have IGETC done as soon as possible and all pre-reqs completed though. Just make sure your English and Math Classes are done by the Fall.

We are not allowed to finish English by Spring?

Well, I know a few people were rejected from SB because they didn’t have their English completed by fall. It becomes very crucial when you use AP Credit for the first English class and the schools you are applying to have no idea how you will perform in a College level English course. So, could you finish it in Spring and get accepted to some UC’s? Probably, but why take the chance? It’s not that hard to get your English/Math completed in the first year (if you’re doing 2 years and placed into transferable level classes).

Even though it doesn’t really answer your questions I found this Matrix to be helpful, ya’ll might too:

@Username. Finish your Math and English requirements ASAP! Do not put this off.
If you are applying this year, finish both of them by the end of Fall 2012.

I just got into Berkeley with a high GPA but missing like 3-4 prerequisites for my major. In the follow-up application I just told them my community college didn’t offer those classes.

TT I am an international student being required to first finish some ESL classes then will be allowed to take college level English classes. TT. So I can only start my first composition class next fall. T_T. But I took a bunch of science and math classes (double major in math and computer science)and got straight As so far. Do you think I still have a chance at Berkeley? I am planning to take many science classes to prove my ability and compensate for missing Eng classes at the time of applying. And this is also the thing I am struggling with…Could you give me some suggestions in my post? Thanks very much!!!

@jdom24 Thanks, this Matrix is actually pretty helpful. The course that I will not complete until the spring prior to transfer is an introductory chemistry course for Psych major at UCLA which is impacted. I hope this wont be an issue though. I will probably be completeing my last IGETC requirement in the spring as well.
