Thanks for taking the time to read this! I’m considering transferring to Northeastern starting in Spring 2018. It’s still an idea at this point, but if you have any advice or personal experience to share I’d really appreciate it. There are a lot of factors going in to my decision to (try to) transfer or not, but here are a few questions I’m hoping you can answer.
- The standard course at Northeastern seems to be 4 hours; at my current university it's 3 hours. Will my courses transfer as their 4 hour equivalents?
- Transfer financial aid: A representative from the financial aid office says they meet full need. How has everyone's experience been with this?
- If there are any human services, sociology, or political science majors (or combined majors!) out there, what have your experiences with these programs been? Favorite and least favorite courses? What kind of co-ops have you been on and/or interviewed for?
- Less critical than my above major preferences, but can anyone comment on the Urban Studies and Law & Public Policy minors?
- Has your co-op pay covered your cost of living, especially if the co-op was in Boston or another expensive city?
Thank you again for your insight!
Omg. I’m in the exact situation as you! Looking to transfer to Northeastern Uni in Spring 2018. I want to major in Political Sci and probably double major too. Hope there’s some replies to this thread!!
Do you know when the applications open?
Hey! The next Common App cycle starts on August 1st, so that’s when you can start submitting the application to Northeastern.

You will likely get 3 credits. Sometimes they only give 2.25 credits, depending on the course. Don’t ask me why. I know that a 4 credit lab course transferred as 3 credits.

Haven’t used financial aid.

Too many courses to write about. There is a TRACE review link on myNEU and the Ratemyprofessors sites. I suggest you check both sites. The quality is really uneven. Some are great and others are not so much.

They have some really good faculty in that department with strong connections to the city and state governments. The head of the MBTA used to teach in the program and so do other state leaders. Of course, Michael Dukakis is on the faculty.
- Has your co-op pay covered your cost of living, especially if the co-op was in Boston or another expensive city?
No, but it is enough to cover your expenses during coop. Just don’t expect to have much left over at the end. If you get a coop outside of Boston, you might be able to save some money to help cover college costs.
