transfer questions

But his units arent from a CCC and as malishka said, it wouldn't make any sense for him to go to a CCC to finish since the bulk of his work is completed out of state. He'd still be considered an OOS applicant and would have to have his courses analyzed to see if they'd transfer. Max units doesn't really matter, but there's no reason for him to re-do two years' worth of work.

thats true, i guess i should just apply as oos....allie- can i send you my transcript so you can tell me what courses fulfill what requirements?

like i said, i have no idea what from your school will fulfill UCLA requirements. The thing about OOS admissions is since there's no standardization for CCs outside of California, they review your course completion on a case by case basis. I don't work for UCLA and I have no idea what their standards are for accepting course credit. That's what I've been saying about it being risky to apply from oos- you really don't know what they're going to accept and give you credit for and what they won't. I wish I could help you, but really, me looking at your transcript and making conjectures wouldn't help you any because I don't have any authority over that.

My best suggestion is to pick a major if you haven't already done so, do a google search for "yourmajor + ucla" and look at the department site to see their lower div requirements. from there you can see if the classes you've done are similar. Unfortunately, even if they are and you think they'll probably transfer, there's really no way to know for sure.

you really are against seeing my transcript arent you? i just wanted to know what you thought about how everything looked, i know that your not an adcom or anything, just some insight would be nice

I'm not against anything, I just don't know what to tell you. I transferred two years ago and quite literally just crossed classes off the IGETC chart as I completed them. I can barely remember what I took myself and would have absolutely no idea what to make of your classes. I've really offered you all the help within the best of my knowledge and abilities- I can't do anything else. That said, I'm sure someone on the transfer board who's still in the thick of the transfer process would be able and willing to offer whatever insight you want.

ok thanks, all i wanted to do was post my classes and grades to see what you thought

jayhawk,

As long as you have completed most (or all) of the IGETC course requirements, and have sufficiently demonstrated preparation for your major, you should be fine. I cannot guarantee you admission by any stretch, but I can say that you have a very good shot (match) at admission. Nonetheless, I recommend that you have other schools on your list (Cal, UCSD, Michigan, some privates) in order to hedge your bets. I wouldn't move out the CA unless you either: a) have a pressing reason to do so; or b) are sure of admission. Coming over for a year just to work some part-time job will be very unlikely to guarantee you in-state status.

Best of luck!

yeah good idea, are there any grants, loans, etc for oos students? id have a 3.7 ish gpa

The Alumni Association has a scholarship for OOS students...but they'll mail you the application if you're eligible.
