Transfer questions

OOS WM freshman at Boston University looking to transfer for Fall 2010 to UNC Chapel Hill. 3.6GPA for 1st semester (English, Phil, Poly Sci, Roman Civ) -- next term (Bio, Econ, StatsII, English II) -- are they going to be looking at my mid-term grades next semester before making a decision? Got a 1300 on SATs (700M/600V) in high school. Looking to transfer to Arts & Sciences. Also, not applying for fin. aid (not sure if it even matters).

Any and all thoughts/suggestions on my chances of getting in for next year are much appreciated. Thanks very much.

What is your high school GPA? A 3.6 GPA from BU is solid as they are known to deflate grades hugely just like UNC.

HS gpa was @3.4 (took all honors/AP classes); president of Latin Club; 4 yr. varsity sport. Didn’t know UNC deflates grades a la BU?

Yeah,

A’s are not very easy to come by at UNC, so a “B” is considered an easy “A”. I think you might want to wait to transfer as a junior as they will heavily weigh your high school record since they only have one semester of college grades to measure your future success at their school. You’re 3.4 GPA is a bit weak. Most transfer I know who transfer as sophomores had pretty high GPAs and mediocre-good SAT scores; i.e.) 1300+ SAT and 3.8-4.0 GPA Unweighted and well over 4.0 (4.2-4.4 GPA Weighted).

I transferred in with a 3.36 GPA after my freshman year, but then again I was admitted to UNC out of high school as well so that may have had something to do with it.

UNC is known to deflate grades? The talk around campus (the faculty had some huge meeting about it) is that there is a huge grade INFLATION problem (and just anecdotally I can confirm this at least based on my only semester at UNC)

im a sophomore at gettysburg college in PA, a small competitive liberal arts school, and applied to transfer to UNC last year with a college GPAof 3.17. I knowthis is definitely low, and I was rejected mainly for that reason. This fall I got a 3.67 bringing my average to 3.33…i’m not instate but have been told numerous times this doesn’t matter for transfers. any way to evaluate my chances? I had a 4.5 weighted gpa in HS, 2030 combined SATs for all 3 sections, involved in 3 sports and a ton of clubs.
