Transfer Questions

Hey, so I'm about to go into my freshmen year at a university that, after orientation, i realized was simply not the right fit for a variety of reasons. Anyway, I just have a few questions about the whole transferring process:

the schools i'm looking at are: unc, uva, wake forest, elon and gwu:

Is it worth retaking the SAT's if the school allows, my sat score from senior year was low 2000's, and would it help take any additional SAT 2'S?

If applying for the fall semester of my sophomore year, when should I start asking professors for recommendations and working on applications? are there any tips for how to get a really good recommendation?

my senior year gpa was a 4.3, but overall my gpa was bad at around 3.3 or so due to mainly freshman and sophomore year. I took a lot of AP's and honors and I intend to try to gain around a 4.0 at college. Additionally, in high school i had a lot of extra curriculars that i plan on continuing in college. If i succeed to reach a 4.0 ( or something close by it) , would I have a chance at being admitted into any of the schools listed above despite a bad initial high school gpa?

are there any additional tips anyone would increase chances of being admitted as a transfer?

thank you and let me know!

Read the transfer 101 sticky. It will give the arguments for and against retaking SATs.

Transfer apps are usually due sometime between February and June. Make a spread sheet with deadlines and requirements, etc.

Get to know professors and visit them during office hours. When it’s time for requesting LORS, ask professors in person if they can write you a strong LOR and set up a meeting with them. Then during this meeting explain why you need said LOR.

GW, by the way, won’t require high school info if you apply with more than 30 credits.
work very hard on your college GPA… I think UNC will be very very hard to transfer into. As for the rest it depends on what slots they have available (and how much $$$ you have)…
