Hi I'm considering transferring to UMD for the spring semester. I am currently a freshman at the University of Miami. I'm in perfectly good academic standing and have good grades at UM. I'm a Business and psychology double major, and will be applying to the UMD business school. I'm not very worried about getting accepted because I was already accepted once and almost went to UMD. I do have a few questions though.

Assuming I'm accepted, will I get housing for the spring 2011 semester? This is important because I'm from Massachusetts so I wouldn't go if i cant live on campus at least for the 1st semester.

Also, Im unhappy with UMiami mainly because of the people and social life on weekends. It seems like almost everyone, i say almost because i do have some great friends, is rich and stuck up. It seems like everyone always wants to go to crazy nightclubs all the time, and i just don't like that. Im from a small suburb of boston and want a more chill and social social life haha People think i don't like to go out or drink, but this is not the case AT ALL. I just don't like clubbing and the superficiality of Miami. So do you think I would be a better fit at UMD?

I am a little worried from your post. I have applied to both UMD and Miami. I loved Miami but I have heard about people being really superficial like you are experiencing. Its bothersome because Miami’s location is amazing and it seemed awesome when I visited.

br10pb I don’t want to trash talk UM. I love the University of Miami, its a great school both academically and athletically. Even though I will probably leave I still have a ton of pride in the school. But you should be warned that a lot of people are super rich and kinda snobby. Every night of the week you’ll see girls with high heels and crazy dresses getting ready to head to south beach. The social life is also 100% located off campus. As you saw our campus is small and there is literally nothing happening here on weekends, and because of this most kids flock to clubs in Coconut grove and south beach. I’m not trying to put these people down, its just not for me. Even though i want to leave I still enjoy most of the time down here and UM is a great school, but just keep what i said in mind
