I am planning on transferring from a Michigan community college to Florida State University in 2008. I am going to meet with an academic counselor at my college soon to work on a curriculum plan to ensure that I only take courses that WILL transfer to FSU for sure.

My question is, how well do credits from community colleges transfer to out-of-state universities? I would like to hear from someone who has had experience with transferring from a community college to a far-away out-of-state university.

Hi Gina - I have some friends in the same boat. Some schools will have something on their websites about which credits from what schools they will accept. I've also found that most schools will accept the class if they have something similar. You'll have to search the schools websites.

Here's UVa - http://www.web.virginia.edu/ArtsSci/credit/credit_analyzer.asp.

Take a look. Hope that helps.

Hello, thanks for the link. I did search FSU's website and it doesn't say much about out-of-state transfer credits. I think most colleges and universities have similiar classes, like english, math classes etc. I think as long as I plan out my classes with the help of a counselor that can tell me what classes will transfer I'll be okay.

You might consider calling, visiting with a transcript or emailing FSU to be sure that your credits will be acceptable, if you haven't already done this.

Good luck!
