Transfer recomendations

Hi everyone reading this, I am going to a community college this fall because I want to save money, and because I want to end up at a better university than I could have had right after High School. My hs stats are pretty bad my gpa is around 2.5 and my SAT's is 1240/2400(I don't believe there is a 2400 btw lol) The reason for that is because I went through a lot of bad things in my hs years that i will probably never be able to explain to college admissions becacause it just sounds like an excuse, however I am going to go a cc and will work my hardest and i wont get anything below a 3.95 for sure. so what i am asking is, is there anything else i should do in my 1.5-2 yrs at cc that will impress really good colleges like UCLA, Georgetown, etc (i would be wiling taking the ACT, which i know i will do better on) also does anyone know really good nursing programs that i can get into. I am more interested in elite schools, because I really want to go to a school that is rigourous because it will only help me through grad school. thank you for your time.

P.S -Don't be rude, if you dont have answer don't comment here and be rude.

What is your home state and what can your parents afford?

One thing you must do at CC:
Keep your GPA as high as possible(close to a 4.0).

I would NOT worry much about EC but joining clubs can help your resume a bit. Make sure you keep your priority straight and that school comes first.

Start looking up the schools you are interested in applying and see if they offer any nursing programs. Research each school’s requirement and find the lists of courses you need to take in order to get into their nursing program. I recommend looking up your state universities first. They are usually more lenient regarding college credits and tuition will be much cheaper than the private schools you have listed.

my parents aren’t paying for my education and i live in Maryland, but university of maryland is not option since it has no nursing school. And thank you for you time btw!!

yes hear what you are saying bottlecap thanks a lot for the advice it would mean so much to me if I could go to Gtown but I would either not get a lot of money or not get accepted at all because of my hs stats, also as a transfer do you know if there is a certain GPA I should have so that I can get money from the schools which I really need btw since im paying for my education

Well, first of all, good for you to choosing to attend CC  It’s a great option for multiple reason, and you have no need to justify or defend that. I’m still learning this. You sadly can’t “erase” your highschool career, but a stellar college transcript can easily make up for average high school grades.

I’ll begin by saying, if you haven’t even started yet, don’t make promises to yourself like “I won’t get below X grades”, as you did. Maybe once you have a consistent showing, but if you make that now, and fall through, you’ll only feel distraught.

2nd of all, if you are looking for a good nursing program…well, look into that. An “elite university” will only give you so much of a leg up into a graduate-program. Don’t think that far ahead yet…rather, focus on getting a BNS.

Look for schools which you think you would genuinely enjoy being at, over any name. Especially since those schools are very hard to get into as a freshman, nonetheless as a transfer.

If you need any aid…good luck. Really check for in state-programs first though, if money is an issue.

But, there is nothing extraordinary you, or anyone at a CC can do in your time there to make you have a huge leg up as a transfer…just get the best grades you can, focus on school, save up money if you need to, etc.

And…last note, can you try to clean up your post? Make it a bit more eloquent , and cleaner? More people will respond to future posts that way.
