Hey!

I'm currently in my sophomore year at a UC school. I have been doing track for a while now and have managed to run 5k in 16mins. I was wondering if it possible to be recruited as a transfer student? If so, is this time competitive? Also, is it too late to now start contacting coaches (transfer application deadline is often March)? If I did contact coaches does anyone know what kind of information I would need to provide?
Has anyone else done this before, or know the process?

Thanks!

Maybe. Do you mean 5K on a track, or on an XC course? Since 5K isn’t a standard HS distance, there’s no data on the recruiting forum. However, there is for XC:

[How to Get Recruited for College Cross Country - Scholarships | NCSA](http://www.ncsasports.org/recruiting-tools/College-Cross-Country-Recruiting/mens-cross-country-recruiting-guidelines)

You’d be “recruitable” under that standard for XC, coming out of high school. You should probably have a good idea of where you stand at your UC compared to other DI track athletes.

Of course you have to look at the NCAA guidelines about transferring, since you are probably under contract with your current school. You can’t contact other coaches, nor can they contact you until you’ve been released by your current school. Kind of a Catch 22 since you won’t know if you want to be released until you know if you have a spot on another team. You will have to be a bit devious to find out what your options might be. Like checking with athletes you know at other schools to see if they need you.

Read this before you do anything else:
