transfer requirements to UVA cas

do you need to take a language? if applying for second year transfer
do you need to take a science?
if you have over 30 credits is it ok
urgent

can anybody help, im going to be in the bus. school at another university and want to tailor my courses to what UVA wants… I have the option of not taking a language and will prob. not take a science till soph year so will I be okay with the courses I have completed??

You don’t need to complete UVA’s language or other distributions requirements until you graduate, but most people finish them up pretty quickly. Doubtless Admissions will want to see that you’ve made at least some progress toward fulfilling them. There are lots of classes at UVA for non science majors to fulfill the science/math requirement–for instance, “How Things Work” so you might want to wait on science if it’s not convenient where you are.

If you’ve taken three or four years of a language in high school, you can probably pass (or almost pass) the exam to place out of the language requirement entirely. Almost nobody who’s able to get into UVA needs to spend four semesters on his or her language requirement, unless s/he is choosing to begin a new language from scratch.

If you’ve taken, say, a few years of high school Spanish or French and you want to use that language to fulfill your requirement, take a placement test at the college where you are now. If you place at an advanced level, then you will probably pass the UVA test as well. If you don’t do so well, enroll where the placement test tells you to–in an intermediate course, for instance–and do that. Finishing an intermediate-level course (second year of college language) is all UVA requires.

Thanks for the post so I dont need to take a language/science per say at my current university. As in it wont hurt me if i dont. Im in the bus. school at my college so my courses will related to that and tailored to pre-commerce because I will be applying to arts and sciences as a sophomore and then to mcintire.

Bigtuna, that’s right; you will not need to have finished your language or science distribution requirements in order to transfer. On the other hand, the transfer application involves competition with others, so if you look less well prepared, then you are going to be at a disadvantage. It would be wise to get at least a start on the distribution requirements.

Well I mean I would be taking econ, calc, english seminar, and a couple of history courses just no science and language but i guess I can do that at UVA soph. year before mcintire?
