Transfer Requirements

Certain schools expects you to have completed certain courses before you transfer. Is it acceptable that you apply before having taken such courses if you intend on taking them the following semester before the actual transfer? For example, a year of college English is required and you have only completed one semester, but are about to begin the next.

It might depend on the school, but I would suspect that mostly doing this will be acceptable. Just make sure you make it clear to the school that you are planning to take the courses. Tell them explicitly which courses you plan to take and when.

The downside in having “future” classes meeting schools’ prerequisites is that you will not have the advantage of “proving” you got a high grade in the class. Which would be more preferable in admissions? An “A” in a required class which you have completed, or an unknown grade in a class which you say you are going to take? If you have “future” classes going toward transfer requirements, you had better do your best to make sure all the grades in the required classes you have completed are GOOD.
