Transfer SAT / GPA

emory definitely

When you apply as a transfer, there is no much weight on the SAT scores. Altough having a good SAT scores would serve as an advantage, schools put more emphasis on your college work. As a result, many schools do not even require SAT results from a certain amount of credits.
BTW, whats wrong with UC berkeley? I consider it as one of the top schools in the nation. Some might say that brown and emory would be a step down...

I did overload my schedule - 18 credits; taking Phys with calc (honors), O Chem (honors), Calc II, Bio. In Chem and Math I did learn a lot and I loved them. But bio is pretty bad and the labs suck, the phys labs too. Also, I am putting myself through school so I need a need-blind school - major reason for transfer (which I don't know if I should mention in my applications).
I do like UW despite all that, with the exception that it is a little impersonal which is inevitable with 40K+ students.
If I stay in Wisconsin I'd still be happy but since I used to be in math competitions and got some awards I kinda wanted to go somewhere where I would be pushed feven further and a BS in math and chem and PhD in Math would really sound intimidating. I blame it on Good Will Hunting.

JCC: what do you want to major in?

I didn't mean to berate my school - I just want to transfer badly.
Another thing is that as I said I was in math cometitions and olympiads while in high school back home (Bulgaria) and I got 3rd and 5th place nationally. Most of the people that were in top 10 are in Harvard, Oxford, MIT and Princeton.
I guess I have an inferiority complex. The school is not bad. I just want it all.

P.S. berkeley id DEFINITELY better than emory in my book and I would probably have a lot of trouble picking between it and Brown. science in berkeley rocks. that US news ranking is a tricky thing.

I posted the berkeley remark for pinkear(if you were wondering...)
coming from a community college, I have less options than you do martini. Although I am applying to Cornell and, IMHO, I have the grades and course load to have a shot at getting in, I remain pasimistic and plan for the worst case scenario. My dillema is whether UW has a significant enough advantage over Rutgers for me to spend the extra money and the extra distance from home (I heard midwest ppl are really diffrent from ppl on the coasts).
BTW, isn't the class size get significantly smaller once you get to more specialized classes(usually junior year)? I think this is the time you can get personal with your proffessors and get the recogntion you are after.

I think you should go with the better school regardless of money if you can manage financially. UW is definitely a better option. Also I think that you have really good chances of being accepted.
The midwest people are not bad at all. Plus so many people are from all over. And everyone I know is happy with the school.
Good luck!
