Transfer-School Selection Help?!

I am currently a freshman and recently decided to transfer from a private liberal arts school in Minnesota. While I was super estastic to be attending what I thought was my absolute perfect school, it turned out not to be such a good fit. I applied as a transfer to a school back in my home state (FL) but due to a transcript delay I wasn't admitted on time and I was forced to take a semester off. Now, I am trying to decide between several schools and I'm at a loss. I don't know how to select the school for me, especially since my first choice school didn't work out. It was kind of devastating for me as I hadn't considered the idea that I would be miserable there.

...So my question is, transfer students, how did you decide what school to transfer to? I tried to evaluate everything I didn't like about the school I attended for the fall semester but its not entirely helpful. I just have no idea how to gauge where I'll be happy. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Did you visit your current school in advance?

If it is the social aspect that is the problem, I'd suggest visiting possible schools on Thursday-weekend. See what people do. See if there are clubs/ECs you'd like to join.

If it is the academics, sit in on classes in your field; check course offerings; frequency of course offerings.

If you tell us more about how the first school didn't work out, we might have better suggestions.

I know it can be difficult to visit schools you are considering for transfer, but it might be very important to do so.
