Does anyone know about how significant the university you complete your undergraduate work from is in getting into grad school. Specifically I would prefer to go to UCSB or Cal Poly SLO than UCLA however I am worried that when I apply for grad school that mainly Cal Poly (and UCSB) will not carry much weight.

All these schools are pretty good and I am looking at Grad school in California so hopefully that helps, but are my grades or where I went more important.

Hmmm, my thought on this has always been...

While it is possible, you are at a disadvantage. It's like trying to enter an Ivy League when you're in high school, but a disadvantaged high school.

My high school, while it's pretty good in terms of... it's schooling, puts maybe 1-2 people in Ivy's per 5 years. We've had people who have gotten 4.0, 1600/2400, 36 act, ect and yet they've still not gotten into Ivy's.

That being said, it is possible. Just harder.

Your grades and your standarized scores will be important, as well as what you do. But you have to remember that, generally better schools, have better names and a lot better opportunities.
