I'm currently a freshman at CUNY Hunter College. I want to transfer out to a University/College within New York City (or close to it).. I'm planning to major in Art History, but I'm also looking for a school that has a good business program.

I want to transfer for the Fall 2009 term, so I'm working on a 3.5+ GPA in College. I had a 94 average in High School and I've taken AP & Honor courses but my SAT/ACT scores are REALLY bad..

Does anyone have any suggestions? I was looking into Syracuse, Fordham, Pace, Boston University... and reach schools > NYU & Barnard..

I'm looking into schools that are either in the city or close by a city/large town..

I was going to suggest SUNY New Paltz. They have both Art History and Business and the location is close enough to the city to enjoy a day, night or weekend there. The New Paltz community is artsy and the the funky little town is right by the campus. There is Poughkeepsie nearby with shopping malls and restaurants, so it is not as rural as it seems at first glance.

It's worth a look.

Other options might be Parsons and Purchase in NY or maybe Emerson in Boston.

Syracuse isn't anywhere near NYC. Really, mapquest lists it as 4 hours away. Hunter's a good school. If your SATs are really as bad as you think you they are you probably won't have many better options as a freshman transfer. I'd suggest sticking it out for two years, doing well, and then applying to NYU/Barnard. Good luck with your decision though.

Consider Fordham, Boston College, Rutgers, NYU, Boston College, and possibly Northeastern, Bentley or Babson. I know these are the top business schools near those towns, but I don't know which ones also offer Art History.

I also agree with LilyMoon's suggestion of SUNY New Paltz. Poughkeepsie is a great little town--and the former home of the Vanderbilts and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and the current home of the Culinary Institute of America.

Syracuse is about 4-6 hours away from NYC, but I'm still looking into it because it offers such a wide variety of options. (It's on my maybe pile because of the distance) Thanks for the reminder :)

As of right now, my top choice would be Fordham.. Hunter is a good school, but when I chose this school, it was because of their Nursing program. Nursing was what my mom wanted me to do.. During the summer, I participated at Groundswell, a community mural project, our mural was about women in the military. Working on this mural changed me completely; I decided I want to study Art History along with business. Art has always been my passion.

Hopefully I'll be able to manage my time and finally start on applications.
