transfer schools for nontraditional student

Hi all - I've been lurking around here for a while and I just wanted to say y'all seem to be doing a great job supporting everyone through the insane circus that is college admissions. But props aside-

After my first year of college I have decided to take some time off school to teach english as a foreign language and work abroad. With all the build up there is for college, I have a feeling like there's more out there - and yet so many people gave me crazy looks when they found out what I was doing! Anyway, I went to W&M but was not happy there (I can return with little hassle in fall 2006 if I so choose), so I'm looking for a transfer school that....
-would act favorably toward my taking time off (and maybe a student population that would too?)
-is located in or near a city; I have learned that the country is not for me
-has a reasonably decent social life, hopefully with options other than Greek life

I was thinking of either pursuing journalism (major not necessary) or an academic career in comparative literature or english.

and now for the stats, if they matter:
College GPA: 3.71 ... not as good as i'd like but oh well
College ECs: Managing Print Editor and photographer for school paper, tutor of elementary schoolers, various honor societies (NSCS and two others)
HS GPA: 4.66 W, 4.0 UW, ranked 4/700
SAT I: 1520 (790 V, 730 M)
SAT II: 760, 790, 790
National Merit Finalist
ECs: Editor-in-chief, features editor, writer for school paper, 3 yrs varsity swim team, french honor society, other honor societies etc. etc.

Any suggestions for schools that might fit the profile?? (I hear that Brown has a high transfer rate but who knows if I'd get in) I would be SO appreciative if anyone has input. Also if anyone has taken time off school I'd love to hear from you too!
