Hey guys! I was hoping to get some feedback as to what colleges I should consider applying to.
College Level: Sophomore
Local State school in NH
Intended Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.91
SAT 1620 ( Should I retake these )
HS GPA: 3.7
Taken 3 AP Classes
HS EC:
President of the biotechnology club
Active member of a recycling club
Active member of the Drama Club
Gap Year:
Spent 6 Months in Brazil, teaching english and aiding the school with homework help ( mostly mathematics )
College EC:
Involved in 3 different research projects ( 2 Biological related, and 1 Computer Science Related )
President of the CS club
President of the Habitat for humanity club
200+ hours of community service
Honors program
Active Tutor in biological and CS related courses
Created several CS related projects
Presented Projects at various locations.
I had an internship the summer after my freshman year.
Other:
Fluent in Portuguese
Currently writing my own novel ( not sure I should put this down because I probably won’t be completed till after the application process )
I have my own YouTube Channel ( 200,000+ Subscribers - Not CS related )
First Generation College Student
Hispanic / Latino
Performed in 2 Plays since I’ve gotten to college ( both leading rolls )
Recommendations: 1 Computer Science professor ( also advisor and who I also do research with ), 1 Biology professor ( Who I also do research with ), and 1 from the company that I interned with over the summer ( I knew him before I interned and he absolutely loves me )
The reason I’m looking to transfer is because the current college that I’m at does not have a great CS program. They currently have only one research project going on that is related to CS ( which I’m involved ) and I feel that I need a stronger foundation as I intend on getting my ph.D on this subject and doing research as well. Likewise, I have the opportunity to work for a company in boston, so I’m considering applying in that region. ( Boston isn’t a deal breaker though, he said I could work there over breaks ).
Financial aid is a big factor because my parents make less than 40,000 a year. I’m applying to UNH but I would prefer to go to a school that meets 100% of demonstrated need ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need-blind_admission ). Any suggestions? I know its a reach but do you think I have a shot a JHU?
Thanks for your help guys!
