Transfer statistics

Is it true that Yale only accepts 25-35 students a year for transfers?? That's a sick statistic - how many people apply to transfer then?

Is this the same with other Ivies such as Brown?

the brown transfer admissions website says that brown takes approx 200 transfer students each year

That is a LOT of transfers

all of this information can be found on the collegeboard website...The information may be a bit dated though...Check it out for yourself.

danman, yale takes the 2nd lowest number of transfers (after Princeton, which takes none) and has the second lowest acceptance rate. It's considerably harder to transfer into Yale than to get in RD. Brown is actually easier to transfer into.

In order of difficulty:

School - # Accepted / # Applied / Acceptance Rate

Yale - 26 / 696 / 3.7%
Harvard - 55 / 955 / 5.8%
Columbia - 97 / 1071 / 9.1%
Dartmouth - 34 / 305 / 11.1%
Penn - 336 / 1543 / 21.8%
Brown - 189 / 686 / 27.6%
Cornell - 766 / 2307 / 33.2%

Other notable schools:

MIT - 6 / 302 / 2.0%
Caltech - 15 / 188 / 8.0%
Stanford* - 58 / 1289 / 4.5%
Amherst - 32 / 172 / 18.6%
Williams - 9 / 79 / 11.4%
Swarthmore - 23 / 112 / 20.5%

= 2005-2006 statistics from Common Data Set. All others are from 2004-2005 year (source = Collegeboard)

Hope that gives you an idea of what you're in for.

That is disputable. Since Princeton does not even have a transfer applicaton, one can disregard it entirely. Yale accepts the lowest number of transfers.

I'm not applying to any of those colleges but thanks for the stats anyway. They're good to know

Argghh! I've decided that I'm NOT applying to Swarthmore after seeing those stats. My GPA is too low and I don't have anything that stands about me except my sob story that I'm sure all you have seen and which I won't repeat!

Do you want to know what the acceptance rate was for people who didn't apply? 0%.

You have nothing to lose, and you'll regret it later on. Trust me.

Seconded. This very post needs to be stickied for all skeptics who frequent this forum.

LOL. We'll see what happens.

( I don't even think I'll be applying to Swarthmore after applying to Smith, Wellesley, UCLA, UCR, UCSC, UCSB, SDSU, CSUF, Mills College, Sarah Lawrence, Scripps, and Pepperdine.....Swarthmore was one of those schools that was tossed around but I was mainly planning to apply just to see if I could get in.....but there was no other reason.....applying to twelve colleges for transfer will be enough to drive me nuts, let alone adding any that I personally know little about save a name and a reputation.)

I mean, come on. NYU had a lower acceptance rate then Penn did last year for christs sake

It's worth mentioning that with Brown, you basically get 2 shots if you don't mind waiting since the app deadline is the same for fall and spring. I'm guessing the spring pool is also much weaker than the fall because the best apps that applied for both dates will obviously get in the first time.

The last time I checked, 0 was less than 3.

Zero does not exist in this context.

Since there is no option for applying, the non-extant chance of acceptance is not taken into account. Anyone who does take it into account is wasting brain power.

Yeah, but according to my calculations, 63.9% of the NYU applicants don't have a snowballs chance just based on academics.

SUNY Purchase has around the same acceptance rate for RD as Cornell....

The post above the one above this one is pretty worthless and it won't let me edit it.

god dm3, nobody cares about a stupid technicality.

I know. That's why the post was worthless. I have posted too much in the past 2 weeks. Too much time between my classes, not enough to do.
