Transfer stats

So it seems like everyone and their mother is applying to transfer to Brown this year. Anyway, I’d like to see what everyone’s numbers are if you guys don’t mind posting them.

I am:

white male
Junior transfer from U Michigan
history and/or philosophy major with intent of law school
3.89 GPA (and everything that goes along with it University honors, dean’s list, top 3% transcript marks)
30 act (35 when I retook this year - dont know if Brown will look at it)
800x3 satII (recent, never took in HS)
worked 30 hours/wk my freshman year
youth hockey coach
avid hockey player - not recruited, but I might be able to walk on if their team is having a down year

recs very good: I had a professor and a TA who both somehow mistook me for an academic demigod write my recs. They were from the two departments I’m considering majoring in. My hs guidance rec was good too. I actually read this one and she said how well I’ve picked myself up and turned my life around etc.

writer in school’s satire newspaper and webmaster of a fairly widely read website (being rebuilt from the ground up at the moment), but I didn’t put it on my app because I don’t think they would like my politics

2.5ish UW HS gpa. Had a lot of health problems during HS - was in and out of the hospital a lot and I missed literally every third day of school. All taken care of now, but my HS transcript still looks real bad - complete with failing 10th grade algebra II.

I Expect:
to be rejected or maybe waitlisted (if they waitlist transfers) because weak HS record and no real EC’s in college

You will get in, a 3.89 at Michigan is crazily impressive. It will eliminate the high school issue immediately. Also, you ACT bump will help. I got into Brown as a transfer with a 3.3 from Columbia.

how did you get admitted to U Mich with a 2.5?

A summer and semester at a satellite campus

You'll get in...don't sweat it.

I am...

white female
Sophomore transfer from Holy Cross
potential Classics & Philosophy Major
3.93 (Dean's List, First Honors)
1300 SAT ; 1960 SAT II (standardized test taking is not my strong point)
Participate in Work-Study
Water Polo Club
Tutor at local after-school program (Fridays 3-5)
Fouding comedy mag for HC community (approval stage, probably won't start until next near if I'm still here...)
DJ on campus radio station
Just started writing for newspaper...
Actually, I'm an avid writer in general: contribute to numerous publications on campus as well as write simply for pleasure

Recs: one excellent and very personal, one excellent and probably very critical (from one of the scariest profs on campus, apparently). The principal of my high school did my secondary school report and rec isntead of my counselor. I'm very close to her.

Essays: I liked them. I put a great deal of thought into all of them, even "who interested you in Brown?". I think I really conveyed my excitement and passion in these essays, which suposedly helps.

HS: My HS GPA was 3.9, I was my school's "Valedictorian" as well as senior class president. I was also editor of the newspaper my junior and senior years, and had around 200 hrs of community service (I know that doesn't seem like much, but I was really involved at a radio station for the visually impaired and had my own "show" each week). I was actively involved in sports each year, as well as a book discussion club & art club. and..eh, I did other unimportant stuff. My HS didn't rank or anything like that (hence Valedictorian is in quotes - I was voted by teachers and classmates to write & deliver the speech), but I did receive two awards concerning english, which is about as good as it gets at that place, haha.

Supplements: My hobby is webdesign and personal site-management. I love it, and spend a lot of my time making sites dedicated to my favorite interests, particularly anime. So, I included a short essay on that hobby. I also sent along a 4-page resume, as well as another essay concerning some personal issues I experienced during high school that I wanted them to keep in mind (read: my parents went through a very messy divorce in a process that took entirely too much time - don't worry, the essay itself is not depressing, it was very carefully done and I've been told that it is lovely...meh)

Additional: I applied ED last year, was deferred and then rejected.

I Expect: NO idea. I'm trying to be hopeful.

Ugh, I hate posting this stuff, I've never done it before and now I feel like I'm coming across as so full of myself...
