Transfer Student Chances

Hello Friends,

I am a student at Cape Cod Community College in the Business Transfer program. I do pretty well for myself here, I think. I am an honors scholar (12 credits of honors courses), an active member of Phi Theta Kappa, a Presidential Student Ambassador, and a peer tutor in algebra and statistics. When I transfer, it will be in my junior year, I will have 65-70 credits, and a 3.75-ish gpa (not the best but it is what it is). I have good relationships with several professors. I will declare a particular field of business when I transfer, but I believe it will be Finance (I intern at a local finance company).

Anyways, all that aside, I would like to transfer to a 4-year institution of business in MA. I am looking at such schools as Bentley, Boston College, Boston University, Umass Amherst (Isenberg), and Northeastern. However, I am also looking at several out of state schools, such as Cornell, Georgetown, and Duke (difficult schools I know, but, if I do not apply, I certainly won't attend).

If anyone has any input regarding my chances of success at being accepted to some of these top notch schools, it would be much appreciated. Also, if anyone has any information or advice regarding schools that I maybe haven't listed here or considered, that would also be appreciated.

Thank you.

I can’t say what your chances may be for admission to the universities themselves (although your academics and ECs look fine, 3.75 isn’t bad at all for transfer admissions), but when it comes to the business colleges, they often have prerequisite course requirements that are to be met in order to enroll into their undergraduate programs.

With Cape Cod’s Business Transfer degree, I believe you would need to take MAT 171 and MAT 180 (Applied Calculus) in order to enroll into Isenberg. I can imagine that MA’s private universities will have similar if not more complicated requirements, and the farther out of state you go, the more complex it will probably become. No matter which university you choose to transfer to, be sure to check with the business /management college as to what courses you need to transfer, especially ones that can be taken for a much cheaper price at Cape Cod.
