I just transferred into UVA, and I haven't heard about how many of my 60 credits transfer from my old school. I'm not going to hear back until about a month before I start to attend.

If it turns out that a huge chunk of my 60 credits don't transfer, then I may not want to attend UVA.

I think that finding out what credits transfer is an important part of making the decision to attend for a transfer student (duh), but schools like UVA only tell you 3 months after you decide to go there.

If you're going into CLAS then just look online, there's a transfer credit evaluation tool. If you're in any of the other smaller schools, just email the dean's office. I knew before I sent in my deposit what would/wouldn't count from the SEAS office. If you give the office a legit reason on why you need to know (as in, you could go to another school) contact them, because the sooner you know one way or another the sooner a waitlister could get in.

I'm in CLAS, and my transfer credits are not online yet. I called them and they said that they will be processed and finished by late June.

There's a credit evaluator for CLAS online somewhere. You just put in your college then look up your courses. Are you at a "common" place? (As in, not a tiny remote college?)

The tables do not provide a high accuracy for the amount of credits you will attain. Especially for transfer students, the situation can get messy but you should be getting elective credits in addition to the usual, standard credits. The transcript evaluator (and there's only one) is Gloria Gates. I suggest you contact her directly at gag4j@virginia.edu and explain to her your situation. She has the power to decide how many credits you get and which classes will transfer over.

Doesn't each department decide which credits they will accept?
Is emailing each department an option?

Glorida Gates, the transcript evaluator, will refer you to the department's chair if you specifically meet her to inquire why you are not receiving credit for certain classes. But she makes all the decisions as to which classes you can receive credit for.
