Transfer Student (Engineering) needs help to choose: UCSD vs. University of Wisconsin-Madison

Hi, I'm a California community college student planning to transfer for Fall 2014, I'm still undecided between mechanical engineering and electrical engineering (but I'm kind of leaning towards mechanical engineering). I have been accepted to UCSD for EE and UW-Madison for General Engineering (currently trying to apply and declare for ME). I have a hard time figuring out where I should go between UCSD and UW-Madison for engineering. Location and climate-wise I would prefer staying in California, but I heard that UW-Madison has a significantly better engineering program? Is it true? Is it an obvious choice between the two or are they about the same and it would really just depend on location? Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate it. I have to decide kind of soon, so where do you think is the best choice?

You are a California kid so UCSD should be cheaper right? I would pick UCSD especially you got accepted to your major. UW is no better than UCSD. Most kids who go OOS public because they can’t get to a decent in-state public. UCSD is pretty decent for engineering.

No, its not true.

No, UW does not have a significantly better engg program. who is saying that?

what is the cost difference and how is that getting paid?

Employers would pay you the same no matter which one you went to.
