Hey guys, I am looking to transfer to UT next fall. I am a freshman at Texas State University and I was wondering what is a good gpa I would need to get into UT. I want to go into their business school but I know it is really hard so I have decided to go into Economics in their Liberal Arts School. I have a gpa of a 2.9 but that is from high school and dual credit. I slacked off in high school and didn't really care about my grades but now I do. So would they look at my high school gpa as well as my current school gpa? Because I know I will get a good gpa this year. Around a 3.75 or so. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Hello!
I transferred in this fall to UT and your gpa & situation look similar to mine! The admissions deptartment wont look at your highschool gpa but they will look at your dual credit gpa from that CC. I had a 3.0 that they averaged in with my 3.6 & 3.75 from the fall and spring semesters so i had a UT transfer gpa of 3.46 total. If your essays & letter of recommendation are good you should get in just like i did! A 3.5 will get you into most of the colleges except the really competitive ones. Also i reccomend that you write the third essay option and explain ur highschool grades & talk about how they dont reflect your potential but your grades this year will. If you back up your essay with the grades your in!

I am also a current bobcat looking to transfer, get your GPA as high as your can and make sure your essays are unique, concise and to the point! essays will make or break you. letters of rec will help, do the extra essay so you can explain why your gpa is or why you feel it is low, and emphasize the transition, and why is it you felt your grades matter to you now. good luck and work hard
