Okay so here is my problem. I am currently at a cc and I want to transfer to a uc or csu. I want to apply to UCSD, this is my first choice, UCI, and UCR. For CSU I want to apply to CalPoly SLO and Pomona, SDSU, CSUFullerton, CSULongbeach, and a couple more. CalPoly SLO being number one choice for CSU. The thing is my gpa right now is 2.9.. So far my gpa has been on an incline. I finished the IGETC and by the end of this semester my gpa should go up to 3.0 or 3.1, depending on how well I do. Also to include by the end of Spring Semester I am finished with all my prereqs. Also I am part of two clubs on campus, Student Government and STEM club. Oh and my major is Computer Science. I guess what I am trying to get out of this is hope. Has anyone gotten in a UC with similar gpa/situation? DO I have a chance to get into UCSD? Basically, do I stand a chance? Oh and to add if i get straight A's my cap gpa is a 3.4.. :/ So far im trying my best to get straight A's.. Advice? Please?

The best thing to do would be to speak with the advisors of each university to see what specific requirements they each have. Some schools only require transfers to meet a certain GPA requirement and some are selective depending on GPA and extracurriculars

Most of the schools you’ve chosen to transfer to are VERY selective. And they’re the hardest ones to get into. I would try to get the GPA as high as possible now. Also what county do u live in. Unfortunately that plays a BIG factor in transferring to a CSU also.

Well I live in the LA county. Not in LA, more like the Antelope Valley. haha. Idk I guess you can say I’m trying to get to places that could be out of my reach, but I do have hope lots of it… I am really trying my best here at my cc. I just don’t want my time and efforts to go to waste.

Lol. I just came from there. Try California State University, Northridge you’ll definitely get in there. I tried SDSU lets just say that didn’t fall through. Try CSUCI and if you can get at least a 3.0 try CSUSM, it’s in SD county. CSULA is pretty easy to get into also but I wasn’t interested in that school at all so I never tried. For the UCs it might be a little harder so try the lower tier UCs like UCR & UCSC and UC Merced. Have you tried TAG for any of the UCs?

I think you definitely have a shot at a few of the UCs. UCSD will be a stretch, but it’s possible. I’m pretty sure 3.0 is the minimum for all the UCs, but if you can get over that there is hope, especially if your grades are going up. Do you have any Ds or Fs?

No i dont have any D’s or F’s. I mainly have B’s and a couple C’s and A’s. What brought me down was getting two C’s in Calculus 1 and 2. I only have two A’s in 5 unit courses, Physics 1 and Chem 1. Idk if that helps, but yeah those C’s in calculus really brought my 3.4 to a 2.9 last semester :/. But this Fall semester I am trying super hard to get straight A’s. Im taking Calc 3 Physics 2 and Physics 211, which are 5 unit courses. I really think I could get straight A’s this semester. So maybe this will help. Most of my B’s come from GE classes. but those are like 3 unit courses, few 4 units. I think that why my gpa fell when I got two C’s in Calc 1 and 2.

From Avc? haha Idk but ima apply at acouple of csu’s and uc’s. but i really dont wanna go to csun. I sort of want to leave the from the av. haha

CSUN’s nothing like the AV. Omg I hated that place so much. I was only there because of military but still. It’s so much more to do @ CSUN. But try the other CSUs… Just giving you a heads about he SD schools.

As a CS student for UCSD your grades have to be higher!

I got into UCSD with a 3.2. Granted my major is communications. But still good luck!

Sent from my SCH-I605 using CC

Protoss715, I didn’t see that you were a CS major. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had classes together last year (2011-2012) and don’t even know it lol. On second thought CSUN’s CS major is a little more difficult to get into. I think you need a 3.0 or more to get into that field.

For some reason CS is a very popular major. I was a CS major at AVC, took a programming class with Rick Hoffman, and realized that CS wasn’t for me lol. Keep in mind this was an intro programming class but it wasn’t taught like one. I think I was in the wrong computer major, I took a networking class after and got an “A”. But I’m done with that so lol, I’m going to stop rambling.

Anyways, CS majors are always harder to get into because it’s such a demanding major. Get your GPA up pronto! Then apply to those CSUs and UCs. Also SDSU (and some other CSUs) requires certain classes to be done before you apply so try to get them out if the way now, and they also have desperate GPA requirements for each major, so if you don’t have a certain GPA before you apply, don’t even think about applying, it’ll be an automatic rejection.
