I am a student at U Mich. The school is cool and all, but just to large and too far from home, so i decided to transfer. Coursework at Michigan does not come as too much of a challenge for me and i have a 3.8 right now. I am thinking about transfering to Brown.
So my questions are

What are my chances of being accepted as a transfer student?

How will the Brown coursework and classes stack up against Michigan?..will they be a lot harder? a little? not at all? is it harder to get A’s at these colleges b/c of different grading systems?

And also to add some stats

I had a slew of honors and clubs in hs
HS GPA-3.7(that is after taking the IB diploma, Unweighted GPA)
SAT- 590 (CR), 650 (math), 630 (writing)
SAT II- 610 (bio molecular) 640 (math C1)
–>yes i know SATs are low but i never cared for them in HS so i never actually practiced for them. I could always take them again tho.

I recommend taking them again. I personally know 3 successful Brown transfers who ended up coming with me to Penn, and they all had roughly a 3.8 coming from similarly ranked schools. Their SATs, however, were around 2250 - given your GPA, it’s likely that you could pull this off.

The issue with Brown is that they often admit transfers for spring semester, which can be extremely unattractive to a student who is dying to leave her school. Especially in the face of acceptances to other Ivy League colleges, who allow her to start in March.

Bottom line - your stats look good. Make sure to write a convincing essay, and possibly retake the SATs. And, I would say, consider Columbia and Penn as well.

wait, aren’t transfer applications already over? so won’t you have to wait to apply until next year, and then see if you get admitted for the year after that?
