The UMD site says that it is unlikely that transfers will get on campus housing because the freshmen have precedence. Anybody have an idea how unlikely it is and if there is anyway to better your chances of getting on campus housing? When do you find out if you get on campus housing? I'd like to transfer to UMD in the fall of 2010 but I'd really prefer to stay on campus.
Thanks!

Correct me if I’m wrong (anyone) but MD students in dorms/returning to dorms have a higher priority than transfer students. And not all MD students get in dorms.

So I think the chance of a transfer getting housing is almost %0.

Try to apply to some special programs (Beyond the Classroom if you are a junior, Global Communities, language house if you know a language, writers house if you write, etc.) and then if you make the program you get on campus housing to go with it.

But otherwise it’s pretty unlikely and I would just try to find an apartment or room walking distance (very difficult and frustrating but not so much if you start early).
