I read through the threads and noticed that there isn't much info on transfer students who have been admitted. I was notified at the end of march that I got into IT, but I am still waiting on a decision from Carlson. I am also still waiting on Honors and housing as well, as I listed university village as my top choice. Are there any transfer students out there that have heard back from Carlson or honors yet?

I will be transferring as a junior, and my stats are a 4.0 gpa and a lot of leadership and work experience. Those who have been admitted, what are your stats?

You’re right, there aren’t many transfer applicants on CC. I was denied from CBS and accepted to CLA about a month ago. Which college was your first choice, and when did you complete your application? It took about 10 weeks for me to get a response.

I’m assuming you applied for honors? I never bothered, so I don’t have any information on that. The final deadline for it isn’t until June 1st though, so I would expect you to receive a response sometime around then.

Housing decisions for transfer students won’t be made until after July 17th, once all freshmen have been assigned housing. I called them today and they said that if you submitted your housing application relatively early (I submitted mine in February) and put University Village as your first choice, there is a fair chance that you’ll receive housing, but it might not be until as late as August/Septemer. Most people drop off of the waiting list by then because they need to make other arrangements, so the waitlist shrinks considerably.

I have similar stats with a 4.0 GPA and roughly 60 credits. It sounds like you have a fair shot at Carlson, but I would probably call the Carlson transfer admissions counselor to ask about their time frame.

Another transfer student here
I was accepted from CBS (biochemistry) in early march with an embarrassing 3.5 GPA
Maebee, how come you can’t get into CBS with perfect GPA and 60 credits? What is your major?
By the way, when did you apply for housing, I applied it very very late…like in early April. Do I still stand a chance to live in dorm / school housing? Yeah I received a letter and said I am waitlisted on the housing thing. Anyways I think I better start looking for apartments around campus lol.
And nice to meet you guys.

Thanks Maebee for answering me. My first choice was Carlson. I sent in all of my application materials by the March 1st deadline. I did send in my Honors application by the priority deadline, so maybe I will find out after they make a final decision on my application.

I applied for housing way back in November, so I am crossing my fingers that I am close to the top of the waitlist, because I am not from the Cities area and would have no idea where to start looking for off-campus housing.

If anyone finds out any more information on transfer students, please post it. It seems as though the time frames are very relative when it comes to transfers, so it is a bit frustrating.

Vic,
I misinterpreted the admissions requirements for CBS. I had one semester of chemistry completed, but thought it would be alright to take calculus over the summer…which apparently is not the case. My intended major was neuroscience. Also, I had originally intended to be a business major, so I haven’t taken very many science-related courses yet. It’s cool though, so far I’ve shown much more of an interest in chemistry, which is my intended major for CLA. I’m pre-med, so it really doesn’t matter what my major is in the long run, as long as I take the required courses.

You do have a shot at getting housing…but there’s definitely no guarantee. The catch 22 is that if you stay on the waitlist and hope for an assignment and end up not getting one, then you’re left with very limited time to find an off-campus living situation. If you make arrangements for an apartment, you generally have to sign an lease and might be unable to accept an assignment for on-campus housing if you end up getting one.

I’m kind of lucky in this situation, because I can just live at home next year and take a 15-min bus ride to the campus if I don’t end up getting an assignment. I really don’t want to live at home, but I guess it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Sarafina, I’m thinking you should really contact Carlson. It seems odd that they would take over a month longer than IT to get back to you. I found out the status of both of the colleges I applied to on the same day.

It’s cool to see some other transfer students on here! Maybe we’ll all end up in University Village together, haha.

Maebee, I called there this afternoon and found out that the first round of acceptance letters will go out the first part of this month, and all admissions decisions will be sent out by then end of the month. They said this was because they review all of the applications at once, so it takes longer to get back to applicants. Hopefully I will be in the first round. I really want to get into Carlson.

That would be cool if we all ended up in UVillage. haha!

Have either of you received any financial aid information? I was wondering about when I should be expecting it. I filed my Fafsa in February, so hopefully I will hear something soon.

Hay I am an international student, but been here in US for more then 2 years…I went to community college for 2 years to save money lol too expensive in university…I don’t have perfect GPA…I got like 3.5 overall but i did have A in maths and science and chemistry as well… I had C in English and Psychology thats why my grade are down lol…anyway…I applied to IT on April 7th and got decision on 25th which is pretty quick…as I applied after the priority deadline…I haven’t received there admission package yet…I just send the essay for Honor program but I doubt I will be accepted but its cool…About housing I never applied…but I guess i will save some money by staying off campus…I saw in craigslist and saw some apartments they are pretty good deals…let say 3 bedrooms are for 1000 and 2 far 700 to 900 so you just pay like 300-400 per month while if u live on campus its like 2500 for single room thats like more then 600 per month…so if anybody wanna share room with me…I am up for it…Anyway I am majoring in Computer Engineering

Good news! If there are any transfer students who applied to Carlson, they told me today that they are sending out letters this week. Students who got admitted or denied will receive a letter, and those who they haven’t made a decision on will receive an email this week as well.

Anyone here waiting on CLA admissions? I was waitlisted due to crappy, crappy high school grades. (I’ll be transferring in as a Sophomore). This past semester I got a 4.0. Fall semester I got a 3.82. So, 3.91 cumulative with 32 credits.

I’m anxious to see when CLA will be making their decisions.

Good luck, everybody!

As far as everyone’s housing dilemmas, check out Dinkytown Rentals or Riverton Housing. They house a lot of the Dinkytown area (which is a block or two from the East bank). UV is decent, but it’s REALLY noisy - beware! My boyfriend lived there last year and he’s a party animal and loved it. It’s a great place to live… but just be wary. It’s also pretty far off campus. Dinkytown living is much closer.

I am an international student, but have studied in the CC for more than a year, and intending to apply for transferring to Carlson School.
I eventually end up with a GPA of 3.75 this year. Do I have any chance to win a spot at Carlson? I really want to get into the CSOM.

How are we supposed to help exactly? You can see what the average Carlson stats are by going to the U’s website. Then you can wait like everyone else for an answer!
