Transfer student just want some info

Hi I will have my A.A next summer and I was wondering can some ppl just give me a little info about the school. I didnt get much online. Im a poli science major by the way. Thanks :)

Hi kmobley820, I transferred to FIU a couple of years ago, and I really enjoy the school. Even though it is a big school which was a big change for me, since I had previously attended a small liberal arts college, FIU has offered me many rewarding opportunities. There are numerous activities on campus everyday, and there are a lot of places to hangout as well. They also have a lot of services on campus (a salon, spa, dry cleaning, car wash, bus passes, etc.). I find FIU to be one of the most convenient universities, because they have just about everything. There is also a Publix supermarket, CVS, Walgreens and some other shops right across the UPA apartments on campus.

In terms of food, there are a lot options too choose from. I personally like their cafeteria, Fresh Food Company, since I find that they have a nice variety of foods than what most other universities offer. There are also a lot of other places to eat at: Burger King, Pollo Tropical, Chilli’s too, Papa John’s, Chick Fil-A, Moe’s, etc.). You can go to this website to check out all the eating places they have on campus: [Welcome to CampusDish at Florida International University!](http://www.campusdish.com/en-us/CSS/FloridaInternationalUniv)

They do offer housing at FIU. I lived in the University Park Apartments for a couple of semesters and found them to be a nice place to reside. There are also nicer buildings to live in, such as the Towers or Everglades. There is also a greenhouse, a pool, a volleyball and basketball court on campus, as well as a great gym that offers many services (ex:body assessments, personal trainer, etc.), and since the university is big you can always run around the jogging trail on either the MMC or BBC campus.

The Biscayne Bay Campus is really nice, it is smaller than the south campus, however a lot of classes are hosted there, (you might even have to go there ) and it has a different feel to it. They also offer a wine tasting course on the BBC campus, which I think is cool :D

I had a roommate that was a Political science major and she really enjoyed her classes. There is a lot of reading, essay writing, and some exams in the political science classes, since thats what she mostly studied for the most. I’ve taken a variety of courses at FIU, and have really enjoyed both my professors and the material taught. The class sizes are big (especially if you take science courses) but they get smaller as you progress to the upper areas of your field.

FIU has raised its standards in terms of who they accept over the years. I believe you need a 3.0 GPA in order to get in nowadays, back when I was accepted the GPA standards were much lower. Make sure you have this GPA requirement and that you are involved in some club activities and/or community service since they also do look at those things.

Parking is always a challenge, but it has gotten considerably better since there are new garages on campus. The Financial Aid office, and the administrative offices are the

OOOppss… I really can keep going on and on forever, there are just too many things. I think whats important is that you visit FIU and see if you like the feel of it. I hope this description helped! If you have any questions just let me know! I hope this info helps :D

Thank you for all the information!!! Yes, you have helped me a lot and I really appreciate that :)
