Transfer Student Major Change?

I was given the transfer option (for sophmore year) after my ED deferral and RD process for Nutritional Science Major at CALS. However throughout my year of study at Nyu-Poly and Nassau Community College, I found a greater interest in Engineering and thought about changing major to Biological Engineering with Minor in Nutrition.

As a Transfer option student, I know I am bound to NS, but after a semester or two is it possible to change major? I know its supposed to be harder to change into an engineering major b/c of the prereqs but I have finished gen. Bio, gen Chem., Physics 1, and up to Multivariable Calc (the transfer option only requires Stat 1). My SAT math is 790 with math subject test at 760. with my NYU-Poly GPA at 3.9 and Nassau at 4.0.

A admissions person said that if I wanted to pursue a different major I should have applied as a regular transfer but seeing that it is already june it is way too late.

my question is, if I have to transfer in order to get into the major that I want, do I have to do so externally, like from a different school/university, or will I be able to change while enrolled at CALS NS?

Really desperate for answers as I always wanted to go to Cornell and now that I'm in I feel they wont let me pursue my interests as I am bound by my high school major interest.

Why not just do biological engineering in CALS?

[Biological Engineering Major | College of Agriculture and Life Sciences](http://cals.cornell.edu/admissions/academics/majors/biological-engineering/)

I know many people who are doing that in CALS instead of Engineering for many reasons. One is that it’s cheaper if they live in NY state, and it’s not like they’re missing much, they still get to pursue their interests. This way it won’t involve changing schools.

Nevermind, I didn’t read you were bound to NS. I’m not sure how the transfer process works but most people don’t declare majors until sophomore year anyway, so I don’t think it would be hard to change to Bio engineering. Though if your acceptance is dependent on you pursing NS then I’m not sure. I don’t think it’ll be difficult since the major you want is in the school you’ll be in, but perhaps someone with more knowledge on it can reply. I’m surprised the admission person didn’t give more advice, why not try calling again (or emailing) and hopefully a more helpful one will give more sound advice. Good luck.

yeah the director of admissions said i should have applied regular decision if i wanted to change major but will this be a problem lets say if i do my first sem as NS? i mean will they have me re-apply to the same college that i’m already in just to change my major?

then again this is coming from admissions who might be more concerned with the fact that I’m on a transfer option…
