Transfer Student Major Change

Hi everybody,

I just got accepted to Berkeley (Fall 2009) as a transfer student. I applied under the Legal Studies major but have since gone in a complete 180 direction from that career path. I want to be admitted to the economics major but I don't have all the prereq's done. I am missing 2 calculus courses and the stats class that I am supposed to take at Berkeley.

After researching on the UCB website, I found this frightening piece of information:

"All new transfer students are required to apply to the Economics Major their first semester. This means that you must complete or be enrolled in all of the prerequisites during your first term, and fill out the application form before the end of the fourth week of class."

From this page: Prospective Majors

Also this:

"May students change their major once they enroll on a UC campus?

B: Students applying to the professional school and colleges are admitted directly to the
major and should not plan to change that major. Applicants to majors in the College of
Letters and Science are admitted to the division which administers their major, and once
on the campus are expected to formally declare a major in that division. Because the
campus is crowded and students are expected to declare their major within one
semester of admission, opportunities to move into a major in a different division
are very limited."

Obviously I cannot enroll in both calculus course my first semester and it is too late to take them at my community college.

Is it too late to be able to transfer into the Economics major?

Thank you!

do you have AP credit from high school? If you got a 5 on BC, you don’t need to worry about math for declaration
If you got a 3 or 4 on BC or 3/4/5 on AB you can be immune to Math 1A/16A and hence take Math 1B/16B this summer or fall

maybe you can take your first calc course at a cc during summer.

Thanks for your replies.

No, I don’t have AP credit.

How would I complete math 1B/16B?

It says that you must have ALL prerequisites completed prior to admittance to UCB…
