Many of us will be sophomore or junior next fall at UT. my question is that what is the best choice between dorm and apartment. are private dorm mostly for freshmen? I don't think that I want to be surrounded by freshmen. I would like friends of my age, sophomore or junior. but is it possible to make friends and have a social life if you live in apartment? so private dorm( which one) or apartment?

Lol. I don’t understand why people hate freshman so much as a sophomore. They ARE your age. 1 or 2 years isn’t a significant age difference when you’re an adult. Any age group that wants to chill with me next year can chill with me. That’s all I know.

Anyways, my friend lives in an apartment in Austin and he says he basically plays League of Legends all day because no one wants to do anything. He says the apartment makes you feel isolated, and you have to go out and find your fun. In dorms the fun comes to you. If you’re gonna live in apartment, try to make as many friends as possible as soon as possible. For me, I’m going to be living in a Private Dorm or a Co-Op because I know I won’t go out and look for the fun if I’m living in an apartment. For your first year, I would choose the dorm, but if you’re good at making friends or already have friends at UT then go for the apartment.

it is not that I hate freshmen. but I am almost 21 so I would rather chill with people around that age than people of 17 or 18 years old

There are private dorms? With private bathrooms? If so, maybe I do that…

I would opt for a co-op. The biggest ones are ICC Austin and College Houses, and I recently applied for the latter.

I haven’t lived in one firsthand, but I’ve looked into it and there’s a lot of different age ranges in a co-op, and you have to work with one another, so you definitely won’t be isolated or anything like that. Unless you want to be haha.

There are different houses though, and some houses are made up of primarily upperclassmen/graduate students. You’ll have to look into each one though to see which ones they are. I’m not sure at the top of my head, but I know that Opsis and Nueces for College Houses is mostly upperclassmen.

You can talk to sasha2014 about specifics though, since she’s lived in co-ops before. :)
