Hello! I have a few questions about applying as a transfer student. I am currently at SUNY New Paltz and I want to transfer to Stony Brook as quick as I possibly can as a Social Work major. I was wondering how competitive this field is, as well as the credentials for getting into this program. I am only a first semester freshman at New Paltz, and I was denied by Stony Brook when I applied last year during my senior year. I was 22nd in my class, with an unweighted GPA of about 102, but unfortunately my SATS were very weak, with a score of about 1640, and I did not break 500 on the math section which was my weakest area. However, I am working as hard as I can at New Paltz, trying to get out of here. I will definitely have a GPA over 3.0 this semester, however that will only leave me at 20 credits, which means I will still have to sent my high school credentials which certainly don’t seem to be up to par. Should I stay the year at New Paltz and aim for SBU in the fall of 2016 or should I go home to Suffolk and work there at a joint admissions program? I’ve been very confused lately if you couldn’t tell, and I just really want to end up at Stony Brook. Can someone give me some insight on the best thing to do as well as what you would do in my situation? Thanks a lot!
Stay another semester. Once you have 24 credits with a 3.0 or better, you don’t have to show your high school grades or test scores.
lilaw88 is right.
