Transfer Student Questions

I'll be finishing up my AA at the end of Spring 2012 and am hoping to be accepted to either FSU or UF. Right now my GPA is a overall 3.13 on my community college transcripts, but a couple things about this.

Many of my electives for my AA were classes I did in high school and didn't do as well in as classes now. (I'm 24, these were classes I did at 16)

I went to USF right after high school and bombed two semesters w/o withdrawing (easily the dumbest thing I've ever done) and my community college does not put D's or F's from transcripts towards their GPA calculation

I have however since I started taking classes again after a 3 year break gotten only A's and B's. In fact my college GPA since going back to school is a 3.75 over the spring/summer semesters. This semester, which I'm taking 17 cr hours (5 classes) I should finish w/ 4 A's and 1 B and I should be able to replicate this next semester. I'm guessing my overall GPA will be between a 3.3 and 3.4 when I'm finished with my AA but this will be with out counting the semesters I failed at USF.

Does anyone know how FSU (or even UF) considers classes failed at other schools? I'll be going for Poli Sci.

I've seen posts of people getting in w/ ~3.2 transfer GPA's. How much weight will FSU put into the fact that the grades I've gotten in 2011 and 2012 are at about a 3.75 average compared to classes I did much longer ago?

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

If you have an AA, it’s easier to get into the universities than it would be for a freshman. BUT, you have to get accepted into the major itself, which is a separate process. It’s possible that you could get into the university, but get rejected by the major. It depends on what the requirements are for the major and if they are limited access. Depending on your plans, you may have to be flexible on your choice of majors, or be willing to go to a less competitive school.
